The Best Hardware Startup award was presented by Brady Forrest, PCH’s Vice President of Highway1, at the closing ceremony of the TechCrunch Disrupt conference on Wednesday 11th September. Estimote was founded in Krakow, Poland, that transforms the retail experience by building a sensor-based analytics and engagement platform. Their flagship product is Estimote Beacons: small, beautifully designed sensors that could be placed anywhere in the physical world. Once installed, for example next to an entry door or on product shelves, they start broadcasting tiny radio signals, reporting on current retail traffic and pushing notifications to shoppers who have pre-registered for the messages.

Nominations for the award were invited via Twitter and a shortlist selected by a judging panel of PCH mentors, engineers and executives. As recipients of the award, Estimote will receive a 5-day trip to Shenzhen, China worth US$10,000, including flights and four-star accommodation. The Shenzhen visit will be hosted by PCH’s Highway1 team (www.highway1.io) and during the course of their stay, Estimote will visit the company’s operational and manufacturing facilities and gain an insight into the skills, resources and processes currently used by some of the world’s leading brands. The knowledge acquired will assist Estimote to efficiently develop its qualified product concepts and bring them to commercial readiness.

Brady Forrest, PCH’s Vice President of Highway1, said, “The aim of this award is to help recognize innovation and offer a unique insight into the supply chain and manufacturing ecosystem in China. Estimotes are part of the new breed of hardware startups – one that uses hardware to build a unique data set and charge money for web services. We think that touring Shenzhen will help them expand their supply chain.”

Jakub Krzych, CEO of Estimote said, “As a startup, it is fantastic to be recognised for our commitment to big thinking and entrepreneurship. The Shenzhen trip is an excellent opportunity for us to see first-hand PCH’s innovative approach to supply chain and manufacturing. The insights gained will be invaluable in guiding us as we continue to grow our brand.”

PCH International creates, develops, and delivers the world’s best products for the world’s best technology brands. The sponsorship of the Best Hardware Startup award represents PCH’s continued investment in the hardware of the future.
